Inverness Opera Company
Anything Goes
25-28 March 2009
Producer: Maureen Pringle
Musical Director: Fiona Sellar
Choreographer: Fiona Riddell
For a departure from their usual type of show IOC could not have picked a better vessel. From the opening notes of the overture the audience were humming and foot-tapping along to Cole Porter’s marvellous score. Nicola MacAskill (Reno Sweeney) gave a storming “Merman” like performance. Des Devine (Billy Crocker) proved what an excellent all rounder he is (John Barrowman watch out!). Claire Morris (Hope Harcourt) gave a nicely balanced performance as the girl torn between duty and heart. Comedy was in the safe hands of Garry Black( Lord Evelyn Oakleigh), Trevor Nicol (Moonface Martin) and Caroline MacPherson (Erma) ably supported by John Claudius ( Elisha Whitney) and Jenni Lomax ( Mrs Harcourt). With great singing and dancing from the chorus at no point did the enthusiasm and energy put in by the hard-working cast dip. Truly a voyage to lift the heart.

I enjoyed the show very much indeed - the best I have seen from the company I believe.
Excellent use of the chorus, strong principals with an outstanding leading lady, tight choreography and first class accompaniment from the orchestra under Fiona's direction.
Congratulations all round.
Kind regards
Colin
